Yoga is a Practice
Right now
drop your shoulders
loosen your jaw
take a few deep breaths.
Pause.
This is yoga:
bringing together breath & movement into the present moment.
What is Yoga
Ideally, yoga is a regular preventative habit, like brushing our teeth, done regularly. The earliest records of Yoga are 5,000 years old and come from India.
The Sanskrit word yoga means union of the mind, body & spirit.
A typical class includes movement, breathing exercises, postures, relaxation techniques & meditation. The commonly known postures, or asanas, that have gained popularity in the last hundred years are a small part of an ancient practice.
Yoga is a practice and habit that is meant for anyone who can breathe.
Yoga is for every body.
Why Practice Yoga
When we practice yoga, we balance our main body systems. Here, we are better able to maintain health, prevent disease and treat ills. Here, we cultivate joy.
The many benefits of yoga are extensive.
Everybody is worthy of care. We are responsible for understanding and caring for our bodies the best we can. It is our birth right to feel as good as possible.
